HTC 8X? Yes please.

So Best Buy has the 8X on pre-order now, $99 for the 8gb model, $149 for the 16gb. With a 2-year contract of course. Finally!

I'll end up getting the 8gb, because I can do everything I need to in the cloud right now, so I don't need a host of local storage. As disheartening as it is to not have expandable storage, I'm excited about this device and Windows Phone 8. Yes, I've sold my soul to Satan. I've even pre-ordered Windows 8! What's the world coming to?

The 8X sports a Qualcomm S4 1.5Ghz Dual Core processor, with 1gb of RAM. 4.3" LCD Front and back cameras, the works. Full spec list here:

Display: 4.3-inch super LCD 2, Gorilla Glass, 1280x720
CPU: Qualcomm S4 1.5 GHz dual-core
Memory: 16 GB, RAM 1 GB
Wireless: Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, 2.4 & 5 GHz

This thing is a boss hardware-wise. The only thing that is going to be tested is WinPhone 8. Which from all that I've read and heard, I'm pretty excited about.

I'm either going to be happy or miserable the next two years :)

Spielberg + Lincoln + Google = what just happened?

So Spielberg is doing an Abraham Lincoln movie now. Surprisingly looks really good. Tommy Lee Jones adds to the awesomeness. The Monday impressive past is that they used Google+ to market it. Teaser trailer plus Q and A live? Sold.

Look on Monster, Dice or LinkedIn for " Social Media". You'll find jobs like Social Media Marketing Manager and similar positions. Social Media is the future of advertising, like it or not. It just works better. It's more targeted toward its intended audience and the biggest part is... you don't have to suffer through it if you know you have no interest in whatever is on screen.

Check it out :)

Good to see my faith was not misplaced!

HTC has announced their Windows Phone 8 offerings. Woohoo! As an avid HTC fanboy, I approve. The phones look sexy as hell too. Dual core 1.5ghz, 1080p video, 2.1mp front camera... all the goodness you'd expect out of HTC. The only caveat is the lack of an expansion slot. That's very Apple-ish. However, nowadays it's all about the cloud. The skydrive is awful spiffy too, so lets see how they integrate. If they allow side-loading, I'll be content. All in all, it looks like a boss.

Check out Engadget's spec comparison and see how they add up. They're all awesome, so you really can't go wrong.

So, suck it Apple :)

Borderlands 2 release party!

So, I found my way into the Gearbox Borderlands 2 release party! I'm stoked I've never been to a release party before. So I'll certainly have commentary for the whole thing on my twitter @distantgeek

Should be a blast, hopefully I'll win a copy, meet some people, and other shenanigans.

Holy netcast!

I'm going to be on this week's episode of TadPool Tech with CJ and Rachel Boat, Tom Silk, and their whipping boy intern Jon Slater, I'll ramble on about some of my E3 picks, along with my Windows 8 impressions and discuss them with everyone. So listen in at

Windows 8 Release Preview... or something.

So far my initial impressions of the Windows 8 RP is that it's pretty slick. A good integration between the desktop and the new metro interface. Of course there's the issue of the missing start menu, but everyone is pissed about that. I'll see how much, if any, of the old functionality of the start menu I can set into metro to make it palatable. Aside from that little caveat I'm really liking it so far, at least in a testing environment.

The real test is this weekend when I actually know... normal person stuff on it.

SSD Goodness inbound!

I took the plunge and ordered an OCZ Vertex 4 . Check the link, it's balls fast and fair priced. Has pretty good reviews also. I'm excited about using it to finally catch up to the rest of my hardware. I didn't realize that the way other hardware is evolving so quickly, that it's easy to overlook that the hard drive can be your bottleneck. It doesn't matter how much you overclock your hardware, a slow data read speed becomes a huge detriment on performance.

I'll detail the installation of my new goody as it arrives. :)
